10 Simple Steps For Getting Through A Bad Day

Are you having a bad day? Did you have a fight with your partner or with a co-worker? Got stuck in heavy traffic? Got late for work? Had your boss pick on you? Spilled a coffee on your dress? It’s ridiculous how these petty, little things can tarnish an otherwise great day. But the great news is, you can turn around a bad day just as quickly as it started. All you have to do is change your perspective.

Let me share to you one of my favorite quotes of all time:

“If you don’t like the world you see, change the prescription of your glasses.”

– Chi-Ning Chu

The truth is there’s nothing wrong with the world, it just depends on how we view it on our perspective. We can’t stop these petty annoyances to happen but what we can stop is letting them get to our nerves and let them successfully pull us down. If you change your perspective and focus on positive things, you’ll be amazed on how easier it will be for you to let the pity parade pass you by. Follow these 10 simple steps and see for yourself that getting through a bad day is not that hard.

Step 1: Always Be Grateful1

Having a bad day? Before you start complaining and posting your rants on Facebook or Twitter, ask yourself this question – “Who doesn’t?” and be grateful instead. Use these problems or experiences to learn and to make you even stronger. Don’t let them get you down. Just focus on your duty and goals and realize that everyone, just like you and even Britney Spears, is experiencing problems, and may be even worse that you’ll feel bad for them yet thankful that you’re not them. Just remember, life has to keep going and you should, too.

Step 2: Practice Deep Breathing

Combat the rush of stress hormones that a bad day can bring about by doing deep breathing exercises. It is one of the best and natural therapeutic ways that is widely used by medical practitioners to relieve stress and hasten recovery. Just take a few moments to close your eyes, take a deep breathe and exhale all the negativity and stress away.

Step 3: Feel Pretty3

Nothing’s more comforting and de-stressing than feeling pretty. If you feel pretty, you’ll feel good about yourself. So if you’re having a bad day, take a shower, pamper yourself up, wear something pretty, put some makeup on and go out. Be amazed on how this simple trick can give you strength to not let any annoyances get through you.

Step 4: Vent Out and Get A Hug From Someone

When you’re really having a bad day to the point that you just wanna scream, it’s alright to vent out and be comforted by a friend, by your partner or, if you’re lucky, by Ryan Gosling!

Step 5: Know That There’s Someone Who’ll Always Be On Your Side

Knowing that there’s someone who’s going to take your side and fight for you no matter how imperfect and how many flaws you have is enough to keep on going on. The next time you’ll have a bad day, think of them and think of the efforts they do just to make you happy and you’ll feel empowered and will just want to stay happy for them.

Step 6: Feel Empowered By Doing Some Power Posing

Studies say that a simple stance as chest lifted, head held high and arms either up or propped on the hips can instantly turn your mood around. Doing some power posing like Superman’s or like this girl’s is associated with confidence, power and achievement. So if you’re going through something like giving a speech or going to a job interview or just want to get through a hard day, do some power posing for more confidence boost and empowerment then see the amazing results for yourself.

Step 7: Listen to A Favorite Song And Sing Along

Listening to music is pretty effective in calming your nerves and altering your mood. In your phone/iPod, make a “Mood Booster’ playlist then add positive and uplifting songs that work for you. The next time you’re having a bad day, play that playlist on and just sing along. ‘All About That Bass’ by Meghan Trainor works for me every time.

Step 8: Watch A Funny YouTube Video or Take A Look And Enjoy These Adorable Pets

Step 9: Sign Out of Facebook

Social media has helped us immensely to connect with our friends and loved ones. However, many studies proved that checking your news feed can actually trigger depression, inadequacy and doubt for we often compare ourselves to our peers. Sign out now and then limit your exposure to Facebook or Twitter feeds.

Step 10: Smile

Last but not the least, just smile. Remember the saying, “Fake it, ’til you became it’? Apply that. Smile. No matter how hard it is or no matter how creepy you look, just smile or laugh. Our brain doesn’t really know if our smile is genuine or not. But what’s great is when we smile even we’re just faking it, our brain reads this signal that we’re genuinely happy so it will produce happy hormones and eventually make our moods better.

Always remember that the first step to overcoming a bad day is to realize that just because today is hard, doesn’t mean tomorrow will be! Our happiness depends on us and on how we view things. Start now! Change your perspective. Be grateful. Smile. Then, you’ll see that turning a bad day will not be that hard anymore.
