It is easy to forget when you watch today’s stars of stage and screen that these mature, seasoned performers were once newbies to fame, and many of them looked completely different.
Some stars age well, becoming more distinguished with the most interesting facets of their personalities etched into their faces. Other lucky stars prove that nothing can do more for you than having fantastic genes that allow you to age almost imperceptibly.
So take a look at this mix of stars and marvel at how they have matured over the years and wonder how number five has managed to change completely, yet stay exactly the same.
10. Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett won a BAFTA Award for Best Actress In A Leading Role in 2003 for her performance as Charlotte in Lost In Translation and has been wowing audiences ever since.
9. Sir Ian McKellen
Perhaps the most recent fun fact would be that he became an ordained minister at the age of 75 so he could preside over the marriage service of his good friend Patrick Stewart and Stewart’s love, Sunny Ozil.
Sir Ian is not the only hottie turned wonderfully craggy actor here – check out slide 7.
8. Charlize Theron
Roger Ebert called Theron’s performance as Aileen Wuornos in Monster “one of the greatest performances in the history of the cinema, a-totally” and it is easy to see why when you witness the shocking transformation from this young South African model into an utterly convincing mentally deranged American serial killer.
7. Jack Nicholson
This picture of Nicholson at age 25 is clearly him, but has none of the interest to it that the Oscar winner now enjoys as his trademark.
6. Jane Fonda
It is over half a century since Fonda was in her 20s, and those who have only ever seen her as an older actress and activist would probably be shocked to see what a gorgeous temptress she was way back when.
Still a sophisticated star today, she carries her experience as well as the gentleman at #3.
