Since the existence of social media, people are constantly finding ways to gain as many hearts, likes, and tweets from active internet users. Whether they’re simply bored out of their minds or want to feel completely special or different, people are going beyond their comfort zones to show the world (while getting a much deserved attention) that they can do a lot of things to impress the internet audience. Despite the painful consequences, these folks from different walks of life decided it’s a good idea to take selfies to the extreme — all in the name of impressing their friends and fans. Are they simply nuts? Or are they just plain nuts? It’s on you to decide!
1. Jumping from a Diving Board
Everyone loves a good swim. It’s even better when it involves hopping off from a diving board. But jumping from a very high diving board while taking a selfie? That’s taking it to another level.
2. Bike Riding in Mid-Air
Extreme sports can be fun and dangerous. But it should never involve doing anything else while you’re at it. While this makes for one nice capture, let’s hope the biker landed safely without shattering his bones in the process.
3. Jumping from a Cliff
Jumping off from a cliff takes a lot of guts and trust to make the dive below. It also takes some smarts to understand that doing while taking a selfie could negatively affect one’s (painful) landing.
4. Racing on a Race Track
Riding on race car while speeding around a race track is an adrenaline pumping experience. But running at over 100mph while taking a selfie in a helmet is hardly a convenient idea.
5. Skydiving from a Plane
Taking a plunge from the skies is breathtaking and full of thrills. But shouldn’t it a better idea to concentrate on opening your chute and taking a proper diving position instead of wasting precious seconds for a selfie?
6. Posing with a Cheetah
Snapping a selfie with any cute pet is normal. But posing beside one of the most dangerous land animals in the planet? That’s insane. Or should we say, dead meat? Let’s hope this guy didn’t come out headless.
7. Flying on an Engine-less Plane
Flying on a plane for the first time can be scary. But then again, you have an auto pilot to keep you afloat if your hands are busy elsewhere. But taking a selfie on a plane without that and a missing engine? That’s a match made in hell.
8. Dodging a Charging Bull
Everyone knows the rodeo is a place to watch riders try to keep their bodies on the backs of wild horses and bulls. But not everyone is into taking a selfie while a raging bull is about to crush your vulnerable body.
9. Landing on a Building
Whether the feeling of landing on top of a building fresh from a sky dive assures you of complete safety, nothing beats than concentrating on a safe landing. Taking a selfie while you’re rapidly descending on a building is never a smart move.
10. Descending to a Tall Building
So this part is part 2 of landing on a skyscraper. This time, you have two goons posing a for selfie that may very well be a picture frame on their caskets. They better hope they held onto something for a safe landing.
11. Flying in a Helicopter
Like other flying vehicles, posing for a selfie can be tricky business. But on a chopper where things are constantly shaking? Let’s hope this guy didn’t go too high on the angle, otherwise it can go from a nice shot to a messy situation.
12. Jumping Off a Hot Air Balloon
Flying in a hot air balloon is a perfectly safe thrill (if all bases are covered). But making a plunge from it for a rapid descent is plain crazy. Add a selfie moment in the process and you have an insane situation.
13. Descending from the Skies
A picture can say a thousand words. But we don’t know if this guy is thrilled to plummet to his death or he’s simply punching in a ticket for a comfortable space six feet under. Maybe it’s his time for this after all.
14. Flying on a Commercial Plane
Everyone is familiar with turbulence. But what if that turbulence ended in a quick descent to disaster? This pilot decided it was a grand idea to take a selfie on an opened cockpit window where the air is thin and at sub-zero temperature. Somebody revoke his license!
15. Scaling Down the Building
Climbing up a mountain can be adrenaline pumping and scary. But scaling a building on your own without much equipment and then getting back down to safely? That’s a recipe for a shattered moment. And how on earth did this guy make it that far in the first place?
16. At the Mouth of a Gator
Posing with a wild animal is a whole new ball game. This fool thought it would be a unique idea to get in the mouth of an alligator for a selfie. Maybe an agreement was made between the two. A selfie in exchange for a live human meal right after.
17. Flying in a Fighter Plane
Who doesn’t love flying in a fighter plane while taking the bad guys from the skies and down below? Apparently, this fighter wants to illustrate how fun it is to take a selfie in plane with missiles coming right at him from behind. This must be a “blast.”
18. Posing in Space
It’s cool to be posing in a place where only a qualified few can be in. Even more so if it’s thousands of feet above the skies and into space. Taking a selfie would be pointless if something goes wrong in the deep black. And no one can hear you scream for help either.
19. Standing in a Volcano
This fella found it convenient to take an awesome shot of lava behind him in an active volcano. He could suffer serious burns if he gets sprayed or ended up falling in hot magma. Maybe he found it “hot” to be with Mother Nature.
20. Balancing in Front of a Waterfall
Balancing acts are as challenging as they can get. But walking across a fallen tree (which could snap any moment) without any protective gear but a backpack and a selfie stick? In front of a rumbling falls? That calls for a death plunge.
21. Posing with a Tornado
Most would get out of harm’s way from an incoming tornado. But this idiot decided to make the most of the opportunity. He may have seen himself being “blown” off to God-knows-where with a bunch of other things caught in the tornado’s wrath.
No matter how hard you want to completely avoid it, it’s just a matter of time before you end up in the narcissistic bandwagon of crazies who want to taje sell the time. But with more people taking in the fad, many are going beyond their usual selfies just to stand out. As stupid as they can be, people are too naïve to realize the dangers associated with “Extreme Selfies,” a phenomenon where common sense, fear, and intelligence are replaced by guts, excitement, and stupidity. But who can blame them? Maybe they were bored of their minds or simply want an early ticket to their deathbeds. Whether you like to admit it or not, selfies are here to stay.
