15. Evil Doll
Here’s another creepy doll on our list. Mandy the doll is a 91-year-old antique doll made in Germany between 1910 and 1920. It has a cracked face and sinister looking smile that will send chills down your spine.
Mandy the doll was donated to Quesnel & District Museum in Canada in 1991 and has been terrorizing the place ever since. It was given to the museum by an anonymous donor who claimed she couldn’t handle the doll in her home any longer due to some very strange events. She said she would hear a crying baby in the basement only to find the doll and an open window.
Since being donated people in the museum would complain about the battery from their devices being drained while near Mandy. Some people say she blinks at them and often times Mandy has been known to move around on her own to different display cases.
16. Ghost Passenger
Ghosts in photos are quite popular because such entities ignite our curiosity or scare the hell out of us. Just like this vintage photo. It may look like an ordinary photo of two people inside a car but the backseat passenger is actually a ghost.
This photo was taken in 1959 when Mabel Chinnery was visiting the grave of her mother in a British cemetery. She then took a picture of her husband, who was waiting alone in the car. It wasn’t until the film was developed that they realized her husband hadn’t been waiting alone in the car after all. The photo shows a person wearing glasses sitting in the back seat. It’s so clear light can even be seen reflecting off her glasses. Mrs. Chinnery immediately recognized the figure as being her mother, the mother whose grave they had just visited.
17. Ghost With Axe
Here’s another paranormal encounter. Seeing a ghost is scary enough but when it’s holding an ax it brings scary to a whole new level. No the man on the photo isn’t trick or treating, it’s a ghost.
The place was an old military vessel that was being broken down for scrap was getting prepared for inspection. The man, calling himself Stevgoldhound, “Last month we came into dry dock to carry out refit and repairs. Next to us was an old Military frigate being broken down for scrap. Once all the sensitive stuff had been removed, the dock workers were free to go on.”
“The dock foreman, ‘John’ went on board first with a camera to take pictures of work areas. He later sent all of the pics to his boss, who upon seeing this one, called John straight away asking ‘Who is the guy with the ax at the edge of the camera flash?’ John had no idea. He never saw anyone.”
“Due to the fact that it was a military vessel, the police were called. A search was carried out but no one was found. There was one way on and off the ship, and that was by a gangway covered by CCTV.”
18. Underwater Humanoid Creature
These gigantic humanoid underwater creatures have been spotted in the deep icy waters of Antartica. Over the past couple of years, this photo has been circulating around Japan and the Japanese call these creatures Ninjen, a Japanese word meaning human.
Multiple sightings by crew members of government-owned whale research ships describe the creatures as white in color with an estimated length of 20 to 30 meters. It has a human-like shape, often with legs, arms, and even five-fingered hands. Sometimes it has fins instead of legs, like a mermaid. The only visible facial features are the eyes and mouth.
19. Two Faced Doll
Why do vintage dolls have to be creepy? We’re pretty sure they’re a child’s play thing or maybe children back then had a different standard. Or maybe the toy manufacturers were just clueless.
Just like this two-faced Asian inspired doll that was created back in the 1920s. During that time, these Jekyll and Hyde like dolls were all the rage. We’re not sure why and we question why? It was like a bipolar doll with an evil side.
20. Creepy Stalker
Why do old photos look so creepy? Even the children in the photo look creepy. It gives me the chills.
These innocent looking children don’t seem too happy to have their photo taken. Why? We’ll never know. But what makes this photo even creepier is the man who photobombed these kids. He looks like he’s up to no good. Even with his face all blurred we can see the malevolent smirk in his face.
21. Catacombs of Paris
Paris is a top tourist destination and millions of people fly to see the amazing city. But underneath all the glamor, the city hides something devious.
The Catacombs of Paris is an underground burial chamber which holds the remains of ore than six million people. Only a few make the time to visit the city of light’s dark corners. It’s probably obvious why. Down in the catacombs, you will find the skulls and other bones of the six million people. It has also been called “The World’s Largest Grave” due the number of remains buried.
Before they were the catacombs, these 13th-century tunnels were quarries for limestone. In time, the limestones were exhausted so the tunnels were left abandoned. The solution? Use them as graves. Beginning the 18th century, the tunnels began functioning as underground cemeteries and, by the 19th century, they became a popular tourist attraction.
22. Demon Monkey
Well, we’re not really sure if it’s a demon monkey but it sure looks like one. We’re not even sure if it’s a monkey which makes it all the more creepy.
Japan’s museums and Buddhist temples are home to many eccentric creatures and things. The Zengyoji temple in the city of Kanazawa is no exemption. It is home to this three-faced creature. Tale has it that a resident priest discovered the mummy in a temple storage chamber in the early 18th century. Nobody knows where the demon head came from, nor how or why it ended up in storage. The mummified head has two overlapping faces up front, with another one (resembling that of a kappa) situated in back. The temple puts the head on public display each year around the spring equinox.
23. Jonestown Massacre
On November 18, 1978, Peoples Temple of the Disciples of Christ leader Jim Jones instructed all members living in the Jonestown, Guyana compound to commit an act of “revolutionary suicide,” by drinking poisoned punch. In all, 918 people died that day and 276 of whom were children.
Jim Jones, on the other hand, died from a single gunshot wound to the head, but it is unclear whether or not he did this himself. Only a handful or so people survived, either by escaping into the jungle or hiding somewhere in the compound.
We don’t know what was going through Jim Jones’ head. But he’s clearly out of his mind.
24. Real-Life Exorcism
Anneliese Michel was a German woman who underwent Catholic exorcism in 1975 and died the next year, in 1976. She was a shy and quiet girl. When she was 16-years-old she experienced an epileptic seizure and was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy. Her mental health deteriorated rapidly after that.
Soon, Anneliese started experiencing devilish hallucinations while praying. She also started to hear voices, which told her that she was damned. She was diagnosed as depressed and treated at a psychiatric hospital. Her condition worsened, despite medication, and she became suicidal. Then her family became convinced she was possessed by demons and requested an exorcism to a Catholic priest. A series of brutal, sometimes violent, exorcisms rites were performed on her for 10 months that eventually killed her.
After her death, Anneliese’s parents and the two priests were found guilty of negligent homicide and were sentenced to six months in jail (reduced to three years of probation), and a fine. Her symptoms have since been compared with those of schizophrenia, and they may have responded to treatment.
The woman on this photo is Shirley Ann Bridgeford. She was one of the victims of Harvey Murray Glatman, a serial killer active during the late 1950s. He was given the nickname as “The Lonely Hearts Killer” and “The Glamour Girl Slayer”. He would use several aliases, posing as a professional photographer to lure his victims with the promise of a modeling career. After luring them in, he then assaulted and killed them all while taking photos.
Harvey Glatman already showed antisocial behavior and sadomasochistic sexual tendencies from an early age. At the age of 12, his parents noticed he had a red, swollen neck. He narrated being in the bathtub, placing a rope around his neck, running it through the tub drain, and pulling it tight against his neck, “achieving some kind of pleasure from this act.” His mother took him to the family physician and was told he “would grow out of it.” Unfortunately, he didn’t.
26. On-Camera Suicide
This photo is not a still image from a movie. It’s an actual photo of a person committing suicide live on camera. This man’s name is Robert Budd Dwyer, an American politician in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He served as the 30th Treasurer of Pennsylvania from January 1981 until his death.
On January 22, 1987, the politician called for a news conference in the Pennsylvania state capitol of Harrisburg where he shot himself in front of the gathered reporters with a .357 Magnum revolver. His suicide was broadcast later that day to a wide television audience across Pennsylvania.
In 1986, he was convicted of receiving a bribe and was scheduled to be sentenced on those charges on January 23, 1987, the day after his suicide.
27. Burned Alive
Nobody ever benefits from war. Innocent lives, properties, and livelihood are lost for no good reason. Just like this photo of an Iraqi soldier who was burned alive while trying to escape.
This chilling and controversial photo was taken just before a ceasefire officially ended Operation Desert Storm. Many news outlets chose not to publish the photo but photographer Kenneth Jarecke was surprised by the decision, as he felt the picture could help put a human face on a war.
Of the man in the photo, he said “He was fighting to save his life to the very end, till he was completely burned up. He was trying to get out of that truck. If I don’t photograph this, people like my mom will think war is what they see on T.V.”
28. Tragedy Caught On Cam
Looking at the photo, it seemed like an ordinary day at the Wuhan Yangtze River bridge in China. But when you look closely, you can see a person free falling from the side of the bridge. It was a perfectly timed photo.
The backstory on this was that there were actually two people who jumped off the bridge. A young couple commited suicide at the same time. The guy jumped first and the girl followed next as seen in the photo.
When police investigated, the guy was a 20-year-old migrant worker named as Liu Han who was struggling to make a living, according to his relatives. The reason for his suicide was probably about financial matters. The girl’s identity is still unknown.
29. Crazy Girlfriend
Remember the murder of Travis Alexader? Travis was a salesman and was murdered by his ex-girlfriend, Jodi Ann Arias. He was murdered in his home and sustained multiple knife wounds, slit throat and a gunshot to the head. The murder and trial received widespread media attention in the United States and looked like a real-life soap opera.
Prior to his murder, Travis shared to one of his friends’ that Jodi his ex-girlfriend was stalking him. She was accessing his facebook and even slashing his tires. It looked like she wasn’t over him. Jodi is sentenced to life in state prison.
30. Rat King
Rats are the least popular members of the animal kingdom. They are disgusting, terrifying and a pest.
Throughout history there have been occurences of the so-called ‘rat kings’. But these are not the type to walk around with a crown on. They are actually multiple rats all entwined into one giant, multi-limbed monster. As if a single rat isn’t disgusting enough.
Rat kings are made up of an unetermined number or rats who somehow get intertwined at their tails. This could be from dirt, blood, animal hair or feces, but the end result is that the rats become stuck together at their tails – permanently.
These rat kings do not die out, either – they will form one giant swirling mass of rat that lives as one, moving together, eating together and growing together. Historically, rat kings have been seen as a terrible omen related to death and disease.
Are you scared yet? Don’t say we didn’t warn you. These are real stories. It could be creepier but you’ll probably have a heart attack by then. Just think of your happy place and hopefully you’ll forget what you read.
