12. Sotheby’s Rare Green Diamond

This fabulously beautiful diamond is rich with the color green and is the largest of its kind to have ever appeared at auction. It is a cushion modified brilliant cut and weighs in at an incredible 2.52 karats. The reason it is so precious is because green (along with red) is one of the rarest color variations a diamond can have. It is created by millions of years of exposure to irradiation deep inside the earth creating a certain absorption of light that other diamonds typically don’t receive. Generally, the green color some diamonds do have is removed during cutting, so this brilliant diamond is extremely rare. It is worth over $3 million.

11. Princess Katharina Henckel Von Donnersmark’s Tiara

This beautiful piece of work not only gets its value from the many diamonds and emeralds used to create it, it always has a stunning history to add to it’s worth. Given to Princess Katharina from her husband Guido Henckel Von Donnersmarck, a German nobleman and one of the richest men of his time, the tiara was made of 11 pearl-shaped Columbian emeralds that were exceptionally rare. Together the emeralds weigh over 500 karats! It is estimated that the tiara is about $12.7 million.

10. Garrard’s Heart Of The Kingdom Ruby

This is absolutely one of the most exquisite pieces you may ever see. Created by The House of Garrard, this breathtaking necklace is known as the Heart of the Kingdom Ruby and features 155 diamonds laid below a Burmese ruby weighing a whopping 40.6 karats. Something like this would make a great Valentine’s day gift, am I right? Too bad it comes with an unbelievable $14 million price tag.

9. Bvlgari Two Stone Ring

This ring is one of the most expensive to ever be auctioned. Set with a triangular fancy cut blue diamond and a colorless triangular diamond, the ring has baguette cut diamonds in the middle set in a ring of gold. The blue diamond weighs 10.95 karats while the white diamond weighs a bit less at 9.87 karats. It was created in 1972 and went at Christie’s Auction House for $15.7 million.

8. The Perfect Pink

Christie’s Auction House calls this the Perfect Pink. This extremely rare fancy intense pink diamond is one of only 19 pink diamonds over 10 karats to ever be auctioned and all the rest of the pink diamonds were never graded as well as this one so it’s really in its own class. Especially since it weighs 14.23 karats. This impeccable ring is valued at $23.2 million.

7. Hutton Mdivani Jadeite Necklace

The Hutton Mdivani Jadeite Necklace by Cartier is made of 27 Jadeite beads that are called “highly translucent emerald green” by Sotheby’s with a clasp made of rubies and baguette diamonds set in platinum and 18k yellow gold. It was owned by Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton until the late 1970’s. Amazingly, this piece went for $27.4 million in 2014.

6. Diamond Bikini

That’s right, folks. The world’s most expensive piece of apparel is made of diamonds. And while it took many diamonds to create the two pieces, it certainly doesn’t leave much to the imagination. Originally worn by Molly Sims in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition in 2006, this incredible piece of work is worth $30 million.

5. The Orange

Simply called “The Orange,” this diamond is the largest fancy vivid orange diamond in the world. This stunning piece weighs 14.82 karats and is a beautiful pear shape. Back when Christie’s auctioned it off for $36 million, the man who won the bidding stood up and quietly walked out to applause. He was a mystery then and still today, no one knows the identity of the man who purchased this rarity.

4. Pink Graff Diamond

This gorgeous pink diamond has been called one of the greatest diamonds ever discovered. It weighs an incredible 24.78 karats and is an emerald cut set into a ring between a clear diamond on each side. Even the chairman of the International Jewelry Division of Sotheby’s said in his catalog note, “I can say without hesitation that this spectacularly beautiful stone is, quite simply, one of the most desirable diamonds I have ever seen.”

3. L’Incomparable Necklace

At a whopping 637 karats, L’Incomparable Necklace set a record for the world’s most expensive necklace by the Guinness World Records. The main diamond on the piece is a fancy deep yellow shield cut weighing an unbelievable 407.48 karats. It has been labeled as the largest internally flawless diamond to ever be graded. It is certainly an incomparable necklace and must get heavy on your shoulders. This piece is valued at $55 million.

2. Peacock Brooch

This is as much of an unusual piece as it is expensive. The piece is, of course, of a peacock and was created using 1,305 stones weighing a total of 120.8 karats. The main blue stone of the peacock is a pear-shaped blue diamond weighing 20.02 karats on its own. Interestingly, the blue diamond can be removed from the brooch and worn separately. Known as the most valuable brooch in the world, this piece went for $100 million.

1. The Hope Diamond

012-1-the-hope-diamond-163dcc4c643fcaab86a4e87cb2a3ed1cRecords show that the Hope Diamond has been owned by several people dating back almost four centuries. It is a 45.52 karat blue stone that resembles a large walnut in its shape. The color seems to be described differently by everyone and varies from being described as a sapphire color to an inky gray-blue color. Interestingly, after being exposed to ultra-violet light, the stone glows an intense red color. Though this piece is virtually priceless, it was last known to be insured for $250 million.

All these pieces are so stunning to behold and such incredibly rare specimens that it is hardly believable that someone in the world could afford to not only own these pieces but be brave enough to wear them. As Associated Press reporter Ron Edwards put it when given the opportunity to hold the Hope diamond, “You cradle the 45.5-carat stone… turning it from side to side as the light flashes from its facets, knowing it’s the hardest natural material yet fearful of dropping it.”

So perhaps, in the case of these lavish jewels, it is better that we gaze at them through a screen rather than break into a sweat and worry about dropping one of the most expensive pieces of jewelry in the world.
